He helped bring stilettos back into fashion in the 1990s and 2000s, designing dozens of styles with heel heights of 120mm and higher. The designer’s professed goal has been to “make a woman look sexy, beautiful, to make her legs look as long as he can.”

Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the sisters behind the fashion label Rodarte. People have a difficult time telling the Mulleavy sisters apart. Both have glossy brown hair, dark eyes, and pale skin. Laura, who is twenty-nine, is thinner, with wavier hair and sharper features. Kate, who is thirty, has larger eyes and a rounder face. They do not attempt the six-inch heels they routinely send down the runway. Physical differences aside, the sisters act like a single organism. The designers have remained in Pasadena, far outside the fashion industry’s axes of influence, and until mid-2006, when they rented a studio in downtown Los Angeles, they designed from the kitchen table of their parents’ two-bedroom bungalow. And yet, in less than five years, Kate and Laura have become the most celebrated American designers working today.

Mary Elle Fanning (born April 9, 1998), credited as Elle Fanning, is an American actress and model. She is the younger sister of actress Dakota Fanning and mainly known for her starring roles in Phoebe in Wonderland and Somewhere.

Miuccia Prada

Miuccia Prada has no woman who embodies her brand — out of choice.

When asked about her muse, she tells Interview: “Everybody knows that I don’t have a muse. I’m not interested in that. When I talk with people, I don’t even see what they are wearing . . . No, I recognize it if it’s something particularly nice and interesting. I see the exception.”

Instead, it almost sounds as though Prada works as her own muse: “I would say there is no Prada woman. I’m interested in women in general. I don’t have any kind of preference. I do what I think is right.”

As for her main design goal? “Basically I’m trying to make men more sensitive and women stronger.”

Nicholas Ghesquière (Balenciaga) & Charlotte Gainsbourg

19 Jun

Designer: Nicholas Ghesquière.

Muse: Charlotte Gainsbourg.

At Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquière has forged a powerful bond with the French actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg. He unabashedly calls her his muse and for his latest fragrance, baptized l’Essence, he has turned to Ms. Gainsbourg to be the face of the perfume.

Now friends for more than ten years, Gainsbourg was already an influence on the designer decades before they were first introduced. As the daughter of the famous French singer Serge Gainsbourg and the actress and singer Jane Birkin (who was a muse in her own right inspiring the Hermes Birkin bag), Gainsbourg grew up in the public eye. Singing with her father and staring in films from an early age.

“She is a part of my personal history,” states Ghesquière. “We are born the same year. I grew up knowing Charlotte. She didn’t know me, of course, but I knew her, like every kid in France. So when I was in school, when I was growing up she was already kind of like a friend, in a very childish sort of way. And so when I finally met her I had the feeling that we had known each other forever.”Asked what it is about his muse that he loves in particular, Ghesquière has a hard time choosing only one aspect of the actress to highlight. From her non traditional beauty and challenging artistic choices to her low profile style and shy nature that have created a mystery about her, the affection the designer feels for his muse can be heard in his answer.

“When I design a collection there is always a moment when Charlotte comes to my mind,” says Ghesquière. “A lot of women are projecting on Charlotte because she has this eternal adolescence spirit and look. There is a real softness in Charlotte and there is a real strength too. She is not artificial.”

Domenico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana (Dolce & Gabbana) & Madonna

11 Jun
Designers: Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.(Dolce & Gabbana)

Madonna – our friend, our admiration, our inspiration.” said Domenico and Stefano.
Long time ago, when Domenico and Stefano were modest young designers, an interesting story has happened to them. They were browse a glossy magazines until one of them suddenly came across a picture of Madonna in the gossip section. The pop-queen had an outfit from a new collection of  the designers duo. Today it is  something common, but at that time Dolce & Gabbana were unknown. They  worshiped  Madonna and thought that working with her is unbelievable and quite out of reach.

Soon Madonna personally asked Dolce and Gabbana to create the costumes for her concert tour «The Girly Show». Since then, Madonna and the Italian designers  became close friends, and 17 years later the pop queen has become the “face” of their new spring-summer collection, and co-author of a line of sunglasses.
